Indian batter Shreyas Iyer will most certainly not be featuring in India's upcoming 3-match Test series against New Zealand. Shreyas may have performed well for Mumbai in the recently-concluded Irani Cup, however that didn't serve any good for him and his dream of playing red-ball cricket for India again.
While on one hand Shreyas made the Mumbai squad for their first 2 Ranji Trophy matches, on the other Sarfaraz Khan is almost certain to feature for the Men in Blue in New Zealand Tests. Shreyas was dropped from the Indian Test team earlier this year, during the home series against England, after a string of poor performances. He managed to score just 187 runs in 12 innings across 7 Test matches with not a single fifty before eventually getting dropped. The 29-year-old wasn't able to prove the selectors wrong in the Duleep Trophy either as he only managed to score 154 runs in the whole campaign. Shreyas did score 2 fifties but was also dismissed twice for a duck in the domestic tournament. Shreyas will have another chance to prove that he deserves a place in India's red-ball team in the Ranji Trophy openers where he will be featuring for Mumbai. Some good performances with the bat may turn things around for him. On the other hand. according to a report in PTI, Sarfaraz, who smashed a match-winning and record-equalling double-century, en route to 222 in the Irani Cup match, is expected to retain his place in the India squad for the New Zealand Tests.
