Will Nitish Rana be retained by KKR? Player yet to receive call from franchise

Kolkata Knight Riders batter Nitish Rana has hoped that he be retained by the franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League mega-auctions.
KKR, the champions of the 2024 season have a tough task at hand after winning the tournament in dominating style last season. The franchise can choose up to six players which it can either directly retain or buy back from the highest bidder with the Right To Match card. Rana. who has been at KKR since 2018, told the Times of India in an interview that while he would like to be retained by the franchise, he has not received any official communication from the team. "I have been serving KKR for the past seven years. It's not in my hands if I will be retained, it's up to KKR management to decide," Rana told TOI in an interview. "I haven't received any calls yet. I have scored runs for KKR every year, and if they consider me an asset, they will retain me. I want to play for KKR," he further added. Rana has played full seasons for KKR throughout his tenure since joining in 2018. The left-hander has been crucial in terms of scoring runs for the franchise and has never scored below 300 runs in a single season, bar the 2024 season. The batter even captained KKR in 2023 in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, however, under his leadership, the team finished in the 7th spot. In 2024, Rana was injured in the majority of the matches and was only able to 2 games for KKR where he scored 42 runs at a strike-rate of 123.53. KKR have not announced their retentions yet. The franchise will have to name its players to the Board of Control for Cricket in India by October 31, 5 PM IST.
