It was highlighted that in the IPL retention rules published, players will be paid separately depending on the bid amount and the number of matches they are participating in. Let's take a look at the rules issued by BCCI for the 2025-27 season.

In 10-team IPL cricket, each team can retain 6 players from their existing squad before the mega auction. This could be on the basis of retention or right to match. A maximum of 5 of the 6 players retained by teams or may be capped players in the right to match system. There can be two uncapped players. The bidding amount for the teams has been fixed at Rs 120 crore.

Match piece has been introduced for the first time in the history of IPL. Through this, players can get Rs 7.5 lakh for playing every match. There will be no increase in the contract amount of the players to be auctioned. So the player's income will increase in the form of contract amount and match salary. Foreign players will have to register their names for the mega auction. If this is not done, players will not be able to participate in the auction for the next season.

If any auction player withdraws before the start of the series he will be banned. Also cannot participate in the next season's auction. A capped player who has not played international cricket for 5 years prior to the season will be considered an uncapped player. He should not be included in the central contract of BCCI. This rule applies only to Indian players. The impact player clause will continue from 2025 to 2027 season.
