Murali Kartik recalls Gautam Gambhir’s gesture after handing maiden India cap to pacer Mayank Yadav

Former India spinner Murali Kartik said that he was impressed with Gautam Gambhir’s gesture for debutant Mayank Yadav in the first T20I against Bangladesh in Gwalior. The legendary Indian batter and the current head coach of the India National Cricket Team wanted Murali to join the team huddle and present Mayank with his maiden India cap.

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Mayank made their debuts in the opening contest, which was played at the  Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 6.

Murali Kartik wished the young pacer all the best as he spoke in the huddle. Kartik then took to social media, saying that the ceremony reminded him of his India debut. He revealed that Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev handed him his maiden cap.

“What a memorable day for this Speed Merchant #MayankYadav ..it took me back 25 yrs when i received my cap from Sachin& Kapil paaji… A touching moment for me personally to be asked to present the cap by @GautamGambhir a wonderful gesture (sic),” Kartik wrote.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel gave Nitish Kumar Reddy his India cap.  Parthiv also addressed the players and wished the Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder.

Mayank, who is 22, played four matches in IPL 2024 and took big wickets, impressing everyone. He was fast-tracked into the India team after recovering from a back injury. He is renowned for clocking 150 mph.

Mayank Yadav took one wicket and conceded 21 runs in four overs, and India won the contest by seven wickets. The target of 128 runs was achieved in 11.5 overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy bowled two overs and scored 16 not out in the game.
