Delhi: South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the third ODI against Ireland due to a left elbow injury. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has included star opener Reeza Hendricks in his place, who will join the team in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. In Bavuma's absence, Rassie van der Dussen will captain the team in the last ODI match. South Africa is maintaining an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series, whereas earlier the T20 series was drawn 1-1. The last ODI match will be played on 7th October i.e. Monday.

Bavuma suffered the injury while batting during the second ODI on Friday, when he was running towards the non-striker's end. Due to this injury he could not even field. According to CSA, Bavuma will return home with the team on Tuesday and the severity of his injury will be assessed after consulting a specialist. This injury has also raised doubts about his captaincy of the team on the Bangladesh tour. The two-match Test series between South Africa and Bangladesh will start from October 21 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

This is the same elbow in which Bavuma suffered an injury during the T20 tour of India in 2022.
