Aakash Chopra recently spoke about Sanju Samson opening with Abhishek Sharma in the first T20I between India and Bangladesh. While lauding the Kerala-based cricketer for his strokeplay, Aakash said that his habit of throwing away his wicket has been an issue.

The first contest of the three-match series will be played in Gwalior on October 6. Abhishek is the regular opener named in the 15-member team.

“Open with Sanju Samason as Abhishek Sharma is confirmed from the other end. You didn’t pick Ruturaj Gaikwad because he played in the Irani Trophy so only Samson is left. He has played as an opener and even in the middle-order,” Aakash Chopra said.

“He is a big player but the problem with him his habit of playing too many shots. This leads to his dismissal and you start questioning his style,” he added.

Suryakumar Yadav has already confirmed that Samson and Abhishek will open the batting for the Men in Blue.

Aakash mentioned that Samson will join the long list of players who are competing for the opening slot in the shortest format.

“Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma are the contenders for the opening slot and now you also have Samson in the list.”

Gill and Jaiswal have been rested from the series to manage their workload.
