Many franchises will look for a new captain before IPL 2025. With Faf du Plessis already 40, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are likely to go for a new skipper.

Former India National Cricket Team Player Mohammad Kaif has urged RCB to buy Rohit Sharma and appoint him as their captain. However, former Bengaluru player AB de Villiers laughed off the idea.

Rohit Sharma didn’t have a good relationship with the management and the owners of Mumbai Indians after he was sacked from captaincy and replaced by Hardik Pandya.

“RCB should take that chance and convince Rohit to lead the franchise in IPL 2025. Rohit knows how to form a match-winning team and RCB will have the advnatage if Rohit joins the team and he could end their trophy drought as well,” Mohammad Kaif said on Star Sports.

AB de Villiers reacted to Kaif’s statement on October 5.  “I laughed at that comment. It will be the biggest story of the IPL. It will bigger than Hardik Pandya’s move to Mumbai from Gujarat Titans. If Rohit moves from Mumbai to join rivals RCB…on my god. I don’t think this would happen. There is a  zero or 0.1 per cent chance,” he said.

AB backed Faf du Plessis to continue leading the Bengaluru-based team.”Age is just a number and I don’t think Faf turning 40 is an issue. He has been with them for years and the players know him. I know he is under pressure due to trophy less seasons but he has been brilliant as a player. Virat Kohli will back him,” he added.
