The mega auction of IPL 2025 is expected to be held in the last week of November this year. For this, new rules have also been issued by BCCI. Meanwhile, before the two-day mega auction for the players, a new problem has arisen in front of the board. Actually, BCCI is facing difficulty in finding a place for this event. No venue has been decided yet. However, two cities of Saudi Arabia are definitely on the target of the board.

What is the challenge before the board?

The last IPL auction was held in Dubai in 2023. But BCCI is currently thinking of organizing a mega auction in either Riyadh or Jeddah of Saudi Arabia. According to the report of Cricbuzz, finding a venue in these two cities has become a challenge. It is believed that Saudi is becoming very expensive in comparison to Dubai. However, IPL, which is considered to be the richest league in the world and BCCI, the richest board, should not have any problem regarding the cost of venues. If no venue can be finalized in Riyadh or Jeddah, then the auction can be seen again in Dubai.

BCCI had earlier shortlisted London for the mega auction of IPL 2025. But in November the weather there is very cold, which can become a big challenge. Therefore, IPL officials have removed it from the list and are now looking for a venue where the two-day auction can be easily hosted. There should also be space capacity for all the IPL officials, delegation of franchises as well as people associated with broadcasters.

Many big changes before the mega auction

The IPL Governing Council had made several major changes in the rules of the mega auction on Saturday, September 28. The number of retentions was increased from 4 to 6. Along with this, the most talked about uncapped player rule also returned. The auction also saw the return of the Right to Match card. There was also a change in the rules for using the Right to Match card, and it was said that the franchise making the highest bid would be given the last chance to increase the bid. Many franchises have recently complained to BCCI regarding this. Not only this, for the first time match fees have also been introduced for the players. Apart from this, the auction purse and total salary cap were increased. Despite all the controversies, BCCI maintained the impact player rule.
