Suryakumar Yadav, who has become a regular captain of India in T20Is, wants to lead a franchise in the Indian Premier League. He was miffed with his team, Mumbai Indians, when the management decided to appoint Hardik Pandya as a new skipper, replacing Rohit Sharma.

SKY was one of the front-runners to take the five-time champions forward after Rohit’s stint, but the decision-makers surprised everyone with their trust in returning Hardik.

The move backfired, as Mumbai finished last in IPL 2024. Rohit may leave the franchise before IPL 2025. With Hardik’s position vulnerable, the owners could look for a new leader, and SKY’s success in international cricket will once again make him the top prospect.

SKY was asked about his captaincy ambitions in the IPL ahead of the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh.

The veteran gave a hint that he wanted to lead in the cash-rich league.

“I am really enjoying captaincy in T20Is. When I was playing under Rohit Bhai’s (Sharma) captaincy at Mumbai Indians, I gave my input whenever I felt it was required. I have led India against Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. I have learnt from other skippers how to take the team forward,” Suryakumar Yadav told PTI.

“Let’s see what’s in store for the future. You will learn in due course,” he added.

India defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in SKY’s first captaincy assignment on a permanent basis.
