All-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh due to a back injury. The Ajit-Agarkar selection committee has named Tilak Varma as Dube’s replacement. Tilak will join the team in Gwalior on Sunday morning.

Shivam Dube is a key member of the Men in Blue in the shortest format, and his absence will impact the host nation’s winning chances. He was part of Team India’s squad that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America.

The southpaw played a couple of important innings for the Rohit Sharma-led team.

On the back of his heroics in the slam-bang version, Shivam played three one-day internationals against Sri Lanka after the global event. In four fifty-over games, he has managed 43 runs at an average of 10.75.

In 33 T20Is, he has amassed 448 runs at an average of 29.86 and a strike rate of 134.93. Dube has hit three fifties, 27 fours and 24 sixes. In the bowling department, the 31-year-old has taken 11 wickets in the shortest format and 1 scalp in ODIs.

His replacement, Tilak Varma, has shown his class as an all-rounder. However, he has failed to play regularly due to injuries.

In 16 T20Is, he has managed 336 runs at an average of 33.60 and a strike rate of 139.41. Tilak has hit two half-centuries, 29 fours and 16 sixes. He has dismissed two batters as well.

Varma has represented India’s National Cricket Team in four ODIs, scoring 68 runs at 22.66.
