Neither the bowling nor fielding worked and the batsmen also betrayed and then got the severe punishment of defeat. Team India failed miserably in the very first match of T20 World Cup 2024. In the match against New Zealand in Dubai, the Indian team lost in a one-sided manner by 58 runs. New Zealand, batting first, scored 160 runs and in reply, Team India somehow managed to cross 100 runs. The Indian team, equipped with more than one batsman, yearned for sixes and fours and the result went against the team.

Team India's batting failed

Shefali Verma was the first batsman to be out in Dubai, who could score only 2 runs. Mandhana scored 12 runs, Harmanpreet Kaur scored 15 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues scored only 13 runs. Richa Ghosh was out after scoring 12 runs and Deepti Sharma was out after scoring 13 runs. The strike rate of 4 out of the top 6 batsmen of Team India was less than 100. Imagine how much the Indian batting has choked in front of New Zealand. The Indian team could play only 19 overs and scored 102 runs. The thing to note here is that not a single player of Team India could reach the figure of 20 runs. Harmanpreet scored the maximum 15 runs.
