Women's T20 World Cup 2024 had just started and on the very next day a big uproar broke out and Team India became its victim. In the fourth match of this World Cup being played in UAE, the teams of India and New Zealand were face to face in their first match. In this match being held in Dubai, Team India bowled first. A controversy broke out during the bowling of the Indian team, which has rarely been seen before in an event like the World Cup. Due to a mistake by the umpire, a wicket slipped from the hands of Team India, due to which there was a ruckus on the field. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur kept arguing for a long time, while the Indian coach also came out of the dressing room and started questioning the fourth umpire.

All this controversy happened in the first innings of this match held in Dubai on Friday 4 October. New Zealand team was batting first. Indian spinner Deepti Sharma was bowling in the 14th over of her innings. New Zealand batsman Emily Karr played the last ball of her over towards long off and quickly completed one run. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was fielding there but she did not bowl the ball immediately. Seeing this, both the New Zealand batsmen ran for the second run but Harmanpreet bowled the ball straight to the wicketkeeper, who ran out Amelie.
