Irani Cup: Shreyas Iyer failed miserably, whose captain he was 2 weeks ago, now he caused huge loss

Questions and answers are constantly being raised regarding the place of many players in Team India. Sometimes there is an uproar when Sarfaraz Khan is not selected in the playing eleven, whereas when Abhimanyu Easwaran is not selected in the team, the fans get angry at the selection committee. At the same time, unhappiness is expressed even after KL Rahul is given opportunities again and again. Amidst all this there is also Shreyas Iyer, most of the fans agreed with the decision to drop him from the team and now Iyer is justifying that decision again and again with his performance. Iyer, who failed to play even a single big innings in the Duleep Trophy, could not do anything special in the Irani Cup either. In the second innings against Rest of India, this Mumbai batsman was out after scoring only 8 runs.

He scored a half-century in the first innings of the Irani Cup match being played in Lucknow, but like many previous innings, once again he could not convert the half-century into a big score. Earlier, his condition was similar in the Duleep Trophy too, where despite a good start, he was losing wickets, due to which there were reports of displeasure within the BCCI regarding his attitude. Iyer was dropped in the middle of the Test series against England earlier this year and then recently he was not selected in the series against Bangladesh.

In such a situation, the only way for Shreyas Iyer to stake his claim of returning to the Test team is to score a lot of runs in domestic cricket, as Sarfaraz Khan has been doing, but Iyer is going exactly the opposite. In the first innings of the Irani Cup, he scored a quick 53 runs but in the second innings he could not even come close to this score. On the fourth day of the match, when Mumbai had lost 3 wickets for 106 runs in the second innings, Iyer had a chance to take charge of the team and make a big score but he failed in it. He was bowled by spinner Saransh Jain on the score of just 8 runs.

The interesting thing is that in the Duleep Trophy played about 2 weeks before the Irani Cup, Saransh Jain was a part of the India D team, which was captained by Iyer. However, he could take only 7 wickets in 3 matches. Now Saransh wreaked havoc against his former captain's team and took 4 wickets in the second innings. Apart from Iyer, this off-spinner from Madhya Pradesh also controlled the explosive batting of Prithvi Shaw and dismissed him on the score of 76. Apart from this, he also took the wickets of Ayush Mhatre and Shams Mulani, due to which Mumbai's score became 6 wickets for just 125 runs.
