South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has stepped away from the central contract to play in franchise leagues worldwide. The left-arm spinner is concentrating on the T20 leagues, but he has vowed to be available for the Proteas whenever needed.

Shamsi debuted for South Africa in Test cricket but made his name in white-ball formats. He represented the national team in 51 ODIs and 70 T20Is, taking 161 wickets.

In a statement by Cricket South Africa, the 34-year-old said that he wants to be more flexible for his family and also mentioned that he will continue to play until the Proteas win a World Cup.

“I have opted out of the central contract to be more flexible during the domestic season, allowing me to explore the opportunities outside South Africa. I want to look after my family as well. However, I will be available for the national team,” he said.

“My dream is to win the World Cup for South Africa, and no franchise league will be more important than playing for the country.”

Shamsi was last seen playing in the Caribbean Premier League 2024.
