Mohammad Azharuddin has been accused of money laundering

Former captain of the Indian cricket team and currently Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin has been summoned by ED. Mohammad Azharuddin has been accused of money laundering in cases related to Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). He is accused of misappropriation of funds during his tenure. This is the first summons issued to Congress leader and former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin, under which he has to appear before the ED by Thursday (03 October).

This money laundering case pertains to the alleged misappropriation of Rs 20 crore allocated for the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad. This is the first time that Mohammad Azharuddin has been summoned by the investigating agency. In which ED wants to know in detail about his role in this financial transition.

The case was registered last year

In the year 2023, ED had conducted searches at nine places in Telangana under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Act 2002 regarding suspicious transactions that took place at Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad. The searches were conducted at the residences of Gaddam Vinod, Shivlal Yadav and Arshad Ayub, who were earlier serving as president, vice-president and secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).

Searches were also conducted in the office premises of SS Consultants Private Limited and the residential premises of its MD Satyanarayana, but now the ED wants to interrogate former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin in this matter.
