Sri Lankan bowler who took 25 wickets in 5 tests banned, ICC punished for fixing

Good days are going on for Sri Lanka on the cricket field. But, amidst those good days, the news of a Sri Lankan cricketer being banned is also coming. ICC has banned 26 year old Sri Lankan cricketer Praveen Jayawickrama. ICC has given this decision regarding match fixing. Left arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has played 15 matches for Sri Lanka. Jayawickrama's international debut was in the year 2021.

Praveen Jayawickrama took 25 wickets in 5 tests

Praveen Jayawickrama has played 15 international matches for Sri Lanka, in which he has taken 32 wickets. In this, he has taken 25 wickets in the 5 Tests he played for Sri Lanka. Apart from this, he has 5 wickets in ODI and 2 wickets in T20I. Praveen Jayawickrama played his last match for Sri Lanka in June 2022 against Australia in Pallekele. During this period, Jayawickrama also played 4 matches against India, in which he took 10 wickets.

ICC bans Praveen Jayawickrama for one year

Cricket high command ICC has banned Praveen Jayawickrama for 1 year for violating the Anti-Corruption Code. Actually, Praveen Jayawickrama was asked by a corrupt person to contact another player for fixing in the 2021 Lanka Premier League. But he not only did not inform the anti-corruption unit about this but also created hurdles in their investigation.

ICC had given 14 days time and sought reply

Regarding why Praveen Jayawickrama did this, ICC first asked him to answer and also gave him 14 days time for it. But, when ICC was not satisfied with the reply, it decided to ban Praveen Jayawickrama. ICC had sought answers from Praveen Jayawickrama in August this year.

Talking about the performance of the current Sri Lankan team on the cricket field, the team has shown a lot of positive intentions under the new head coach Sanath Jayasuriya. The Sri Lankan team recently won the series against New Zealand. Before that, England were defeated in a test match at home.
