Hosts Bangladesh Women cricket team will go up against Scotland Women team in the opening match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday (October 3).
Bangladesh were the original hosts of this edition of the T20 World Cup but the tournament was shifted to the UAE due to political upheaval in the country.The next match between Bangladesh and Scotland will be the 6th encounter between the two sides with Bangladesh winning all five of the previous encounters. However, Scotland have managed to stun Pakistan women team in the pre-tournament warm-up games and cannot be taken lightly.
For the hosts, Nahida Akhter with 99 T20I wickets holds the key for Nigar Sultana's side as she is on the verge of becoming the first woman cricketer from her country to have claimed 100 T20I wickets. However, Bangladesh's last win in the Women's T20 World Cup came 10 years back in 2014 when they were the hosts.
In the pre-tournament warm-up matches, Bangladesh lost to Sri Lanka by 33 runs but defeated Pakistan by 23 runs.
