The warm-up matches for the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 have ended. The Indian team won both its warm-up matches. Team India first defeated West Indies by 20 runs, then defeated South Africa by 28 runs. Now it is the turn of the group stage matches of the tournament. Although, the tournament will start on 3rd October, but India's journey is to start against New Zealand on 4th October. This time the tournament is special in many ways, because many things are going to happen for the first time in the Women's T20 World Cup.

Team India in Sharjah for 25 years

10 teams are participating in the T20 World Cup 2024, which are divided into two groups of 5 each. First of all let's talk about Team India. In the group stage, the Indian team has to play 4 matches, in which it will have to face New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia. India has to play its last group stage match against Australia in Sharjah. This will be the first time in the last 25 years that India's men's or women's team will play a match at this venue.

Many matches of T20 World Cup will be held in Dubai. All the 10 teams participating in the tournament have never played any T20 International match in Dubai before. That means Dubai will host these teams for the first time. Apart from this, this is the first time that the Women's T20 World Cup is going to be held at a neutral venue. Earlier, this tournament used to be hosted only by one or the other team participating in the tournament. This time the hosting was with Bangladesh but due to political upheavals the tournament had to be shifted to UAE, making the venue neutral for all the teams.

These things will also happen for the first time

The ICC had recently taken a huge step to promote equality and made the prize money of the Women's T20 World Cup at par with the Men's T20 World Cup. In the last edition, the prize money was $1 million, which has been increased by 134 percent to $2.34 million. Now it remains to be seen whether the defending champion Australia is able to capture this increased prize money, that is, a new champion emerges in the tournament.
