After the BCCI announced the new player retention rule for all the franchises ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction, fans are eagerly waiting for the decisions on which players will be retained by their respective clubs for the upcoming 18th season of IPL.
According to the new guidelines, each franchise can retain up to six players using the direct Retention or the Right to Match options, and a maximum of two uncapped players can be retained. In the last IPL, Delhi Capitals (DC) finished sixth on the points table under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant. Despite an ordinary ending to the season, multiple players delivered brilliant performances. But as only a few players can be retained, it will be a crucial decision for the DC management as to who they will save from going under the hammer. Delhi Capitals IPL 2025 Auction: Possible Retention List Rishabh Pant Despite the rumour of Pant leaving DC to reunite with Ricky Ponting in Punjab Kings, it is very likely that the DC captain will be the first choice in their retention list. Pant already is the highest scorer for the franchise, and in the last IPL, he scored 446 runs with a strike rate of 155.80. The 26-year-old also has a great combination of wicketkeeping, batting, and leadership qualities. Axar Patel The 30-year-old all-rounder has 123 wickets and 1653 runs in IPL. His brilliant performances in the T20 World Cup also proved his worth as an all-rounder. Tristan Stubbs The South African youngster has been exceptional in IPL 2024 and has been consistent enough for the franchise. With 378 runs and a strike rate of 190.9, he was one of the best performers for DC. Retaining him will provide extra depth to the DC lower-order. Jake Fraser-McGurk The 22-year-old Australian batter could be a great option in the early overs with his explosive batting ability. In just nine innings, McGurk has amassed 330 runs with a strike rate of 234. Kuldeep Yadav The Indian Chinaman bowler has been in the best form of his career. Along with Axar Patel, he has been a great option for DC in the middle overs. Yadav also happened to be the best T20 bowler for the Indian national team, and it is unlikely that DC will leave him in this auction. Abhishek Porel After Pant and Stubbs, Abhishek Porel is the other wicketkeeper-batter in the DC squad and he is yet to debut for the Indian national team. The skilled batter can be used flexibly in different batting orders, and he could be a great option for the uncapped player in the retention list.
