Pakistan captain Babar Azam drew criticism from fans after he decided to quit as the white-ball captain of the Pakistan team. Babar took to Twitter late on Tuesday evening, October 1 and revealed his decision to the fans.
Babar said that he wanted to prioritise his performance and shrug off the additional workload that captaincy brings. A section of the cricket fans on social media mocked Babar, pointing out that he was yet to win an ICC trophy, but had already resigned twice from his position as the Pakistan captain.
Babar Azam has had a tumultuous last one and a half years. Under his leadership, Pakistan were knocked out in the group stages of the ODI and T20 World Cups. Babar's form took a massive dip in all three formats of the game and the batter was slammed for his approach in T20 cricket.   Cricket fans from Pakistan mocked Babar for his decision and pointed fingers at his poor performance in ICC tournaments. Babar guided Pakistan to semi-final in the 2021 T20 World Cup and finished as the runner-up in the 2022 edition of the same tournament. But since the second-place finish in 2022, Pakistan cricket has been in a spiral, both home and away.
