Meanwhile, Dhoni only plays for CSK in the Indian Premier League and has maintained a distance from domestic tournaments after retiring from international cricket. He suffered an injury in the 17th season of the tournament but played all the games for the franchise.
He refused to reveal his future plans until the BCCI disclosed the new retention rules. The governing body of Indian cricket had agreed to CSK’s demand to reintroduce a rule in which a player who has retired for five years or more or hasn’t played for the country for five years or more can be retained as an uncapped player. Such players will get a fixed contract of INR 4 crore.
With BCCI bringing back the rule, Dhoni is likely to return for CSK in IPL 2025.
