The 13-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi shone with an impressive fifty runs without losing, and Mohamed Enaan and Samarth Nagaraj both claimed three wickets as India Under-19 controlled the first day of the first four-day unofficial Test match against Australia Monday.

Promising leg-spinner Eenan (3/48) from Kerala, rated highly by the great VVS Laxman, showed his class by taking three vital wickets. Nagaraj (3/49) from Karnataka also sparkled, collecting three wickets, and together they effectively decimated the middle and late order in Australia. After Australia won the toss and elected to bowl, seamers Aditya Rawat (2/50), Aditya Singh (1/85) and left-arm spinner Soham Patwardhan (1/27) claimed wickets as well, helping India bowl Australia out for 293 in 71.4 overs. Suryavanshi, a left-handed batsman who debuted in the First-Class format for Bihar earlier this year, showed off his explosive skills by smashing 13 fours and two sixes in a quick 81 not out off 47 balls, helping India reach 103 for no loss in 14 overs. By the conclusion of the day, India had established firm control thanks to another opener, Vihaan Malhotra, who scored a steady 21. Earlier, Christian Howe added 48 from 89 balls, Aidan O'Connor made 61 off 70 balls, and Riley Kingsell top-scored for Australia with 53 runs off 77 balls, but the Indian bowlers controlled the match with consistent spells. Brief Scores: Australia U-19: 293 all out in 71.4 overs (Aidan O'Connor 61, Riley Kingsell 53; Mohamed Enaan 3/48, Samarth Nagaraj 3/49) India U-19: 103 for no loss in 14 overs (Vaibhav Suryavanshi 81 not out; Viswa Ramkumar 0/12).
