Mumbai Indians are likely to have seen the final of Rohit Sharma as the India captain is poised to leave the franchise ahead of IPL 2025.
Rohit Sharma, the undisputed leader of the Paltans, was removed from the captaincy in the IPL 2024. Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit with the leadership and there were numerous instances which indicated Rohit's drift away from the core of the franchise. BCCI announced the retention policy recently and although Mumbai Indians will have a chance to retain up to five key players, Rohit may not be part of it. Sources informed MyKhel that there is a strong possibility that Rohit will join Lucknow Super Giants for the upcoming season. This move could simplify Mumbai Indians' retention and Right to Match (RTM) strategies. Rohit Sharma has been a pivotal figure in the Indian Premier League since joining Mumbai Indians in 2011. Under his leadership, the team clinched five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. The report also indicates that Hardik Pandya will continue as the captain of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. Suryakumar Yadav, who is India's full-time T20I captain under Gautam Gambhir's guidance, will remain an integral part the team. Jasprit Bumrah and Tilak Varma are expected to stay with the franchise. These four players can be the retained players whereas Ishan Kishan may be released. Zaheer Khan crucial for Rohit to join LSG Rohit Sharma has been tipped with a move to Lucknow Super Giants, but there will be many takers for the India captain. Although the veteran retired from T20I for India, he will have no shortage of suitors in the auction table. KL Rahul seemed to have patched with LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka after their IPL fiasco, but the Karnataka player may still leave the franchise, which will be perfect for Rohit to fit in with his new team. And the arrival of Zaheer Khan at the LSG helm seems to be the main reason why the India captain likely to switch Mumbai for Lucknow in the next IPL season.
