Team India has received a reality check even before the start of its campaign in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Warm-up matches are being played in UAE before the T20 World Cup starting from October 3, in which Team India played its first match against West Indies on Sunday. In this match, the Indian team captained by Harmanpreet Kaur defeated the West Indies by 20 runs. Despite this victory, there was tension for Team India because India's legendary batsmen failed miserably on the spinning pitch of Dubai. The strong performance of the bowlers gave this victory to Team India.

Team India played its first warm-up match on the evening of Sunday 29 September at the ICC Academy ground. In this match, Team India was facing the 2016 champion. India had to bat first and it was expected that all the great batsmen including Smriti Mandhana, Shefali Verma would show their talent but it did not happen and the first 3 batsmen returned to the pavilion within 5.2 overs. Shefali (7) was dismissed by medium pacer Shinel Henry, while Smriti (14) and captain Harmanpreet (1) were caught in the spin of Windies captain Hayley Mathews, who took a total of 4 wickets.

Like many previous matches, once again the task of handling the Indian innings was done by Jemimah Rodriguez, who got good support from Yastika Bhatia. There was a partnership of exactly 50 runs between the two for the fourth wicket. Jemima played an excellent innings and completed her half-century in 40 balls. However, she was run out in the 18th over on the score of 52 and missed the big score. This also affected Team India, which could not cross the 150 mark and could only score 141 runs after losing 8 wickets. Deepti Sharma scored unbeaten 13 runs in 8 balls, while Richa Ghosh was out after scoring only 7 runs.

Obviously, after the failure of the batsmen, all the responsibility was on the bowlers and they did not disappoint. Especially the medium pace pair of Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar gave an excellent start to the team. Vastrakar dismissed 2 wickets and Renuka dismissed Haley Mathews and dropped 3 wickets till the fourth over itself. Like India, after this there was a good partnership for West Indies too, in which Shinel was the star. Spinner Asha Shobhana broke this partnership, after which Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav and Pooja tightened the reins. Shinel scored unbeaten 59 runs in 48 balls but the West Indies team could score only 121 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs.
