Gautam Gambhir is the new head coach of India National Cricket team. The veteran replaced Rahul Dravid after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and is busy in the two-Test series against Bangladesh.

Rohit Sharma, the Test and ODI captain of India, has played with Gambhir in the past, with the two critical roles in the Men in Blue’s triumph in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa. Rohit recently opened up on Gambhir.

“We have a new coach after Rahul bhai. Gautam Gambhir is coaching us. He was a khadoos (stubborn) kind of a player and played great innings in big matches,” Rohit said on JioCinema.

In Mumbai, the term Khadoos is used for someone who doesn’t give up at any cost.

He also opined on terms like ‘garden mein phone wala.’ “My job is to get the best out of the players, and I will say whatever I have to say. Everyone is motivated in the dressing room,” he added.

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal shared his view on Gambhir. “You are not able to judge a person’s real character when the team is winning. When you lose a series, the real character comes out. Gambhir is a capable man, but it is too early to say anything about him as a coach. Let India have a bad game, then we will see what comes out,” Tamim Iqbal said on Sports 18.
