The IPL Governing Council has announced the retention policy for the mega auction to be held before IPL 2025. This time many big changes will be seen in IPL. Many big decisions were taken in the IPL Governing Council meeting on Saturday 28 September. The Right to Match card has also returned to the auction. But the rules for using the Right to Match card have been changed, which is going to benefit the players a lot.

How will the Right to Match card be used?

Before IPL 2025, all teams can retain a maximum of 6 players, in which the right to match card will be included. Franchises can retain a maximum of five capped players (Indian/foreign) and a maximum of two uncapped players. If teams retain 6 players before the auction then they will not have RTM card in the auction.

At the same time, if the franchise retains five players then it will have a right to match card. So that when it comes to the auction, it can make one of its existing players back as its part. That means, the fewer players the franchise retains, the more Right to Match cards it will have, which it can use in the auction.

Change in the rules for using the Right to Match card

The rules for using the Right to Match Card have also been changed by the IPL Governing Council, which is going to directly benefit the players. Earlier, teams used the Right to Match card by agreeing to match the highest bid placed on a player in the auction and include the player back in their team. But now on the use of Right to Match card, the team making the highest bid will also be given a chance, that team can increase the bid once more, if even after that the opposite team uses the Right to Match card, then the player of their Will be done.

For example, if Ishan Kishan is being auctioned and CSK has made the highest bid of Rs 6 crore for him, then Mumbai Indians (Ishan's current franchise) will be asked first whether they want to use their RTM. want. If Mumbai India agrees, CSK will be given another chance to increase the bid and make the final bid. If CSK now increases it to Rs 10 crore, then MI can use their RTM and re-sign Ishan for Rs 10 crore.
