Indian Premier League teams will be allowed to retain five players from their 2024 squad ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction. The decision comes after the IPL Governing Council meeting held in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Additionally, the IPL teams will have one Right To Match card on the day of the auction. According to a report published on Cricbuzz, retaining five players will cost a team Rs 75 crore from their purse of IPL auction. Another significant outcome of the meeting was the introduction of the IPL match fees. From the start of the next season, every IPL player is set to get a minimum of Rs 7.5 lakhs per game as a match fees. The match fees will be above the sum for which the player has been bought in the auction or signed later. According a PTI report the BCCI had held a meeting with all the 10 IPL team owners in July to arrive at consensus on retention, as high-profile franchises like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have some high-value calls to make ahead of the auction, involving players such as MS Dhoni. What is RTM rule during IPL player auction? Right to Match rule gives a IPL team to buy its old player during the auction. This can be done by matching the highest bid made for the respective player by another franchise after the bidding is over.
