According to the reports, the meeting of IPL Governing Council has been planned to hold today at 11:30 AM at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru. As it's going to include discussions on the retention rules with other big points related to the upcoming 2025 season of IPL. Although it is not clearly defined how many retentions are possible for the team in the new season of the Indian Premier League, official speculations have already reported that the same will be between 2 and 8 retentions. According to reports, the BCCI may take the middle road and 5-6 retentions per team along with the Right to Match, also known as RTM, might be opted for. Apart from the retentions per team, the Governing Council needs to decide on the date and venue for the mega auction for the IPL 2025. The mega auction may have to take place in one of the Gulf cities towards the last week of November. This would be a key decision for the teams that would aim to chalk out strategies and make all the right additions to their rosters to face the new season. Former Indian men's cricket team captain MS Dhoni, who had retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, was part of cash-rich IPL's 2024 season. The second-half of the leadership was, however not left in the hands of former Indian skipper but the young Ruturaj Gaikwad. Alas for him, his maiden season as skipper ended without the side collecting the fruits of their labor of reaching the playoffs. Since the conclusion of IPL 2024, questions have arisen regarding MS Dhoni's availability for the upcoming season. It remains to be seen whether the five-time IPL champion will make himself available to play again in the world's richest franchise cricket league. In addition to Dhoni, there are also uncertainties surrounding Rohit Sharma's future in the IPL. The Indian captain has been with the Mumbai Indians since IPL 2011, and it will be intriguing to find out if the franchise chooses to retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
