Bengaluru: Mayank Yadav's prospects of making his India debut are looking promising as selectors have included him in a special camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, ahead of the T20I series against Bangladesh starting October 6.
The fast bowler made a splash in IPL 2024, claiming six wickets in his first two matches, but has since battled injuries. However, after clocking an impressive 156.7 kmph during the tournament, he appears to be regaining his rhythm. "The selectors are eager to assess how ready he is for international cricket. With a long Test season ahead, they are keen to try new faces for the T20Is against Bangladesh," a BCCI source told The Times of India. The official also confirmed that Mayank has been pain-free for the past month and is training intensively at the NCA, where he is bowling nearly 20 overs in three separate spells each day. The camp will also include players like Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, and Abhishek Sharma, all of whom are in contention for the T20I squad. "Mayank's progress is being closely monitored. The selectors don't want him restricted to the T20 format; they aim to integrate him gradually into the national setup," the source added. With both head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel familiar with his capabilities from their time at the Lucknow Super Giants, Mayank's future in international cricket looks bright.
