KANPUR, India (AP) — Bangladesh was 107-3 against India when rain stopped play on day one Friday of the second test.

Only 35 overs were possible.

Bangladesh, 74-2 at lunch, resumed 15 minutes late in the second session due to a light shower. Then only 45 minutes of action was possible owing to poor light. As soon as the players went off, a downpour meant no further play was possible.

Ravichandran Ashwin broke the third-wicket partnership in the truncated second session. He trapped skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 31.

The initial appeal was for caught at short leg, but on review the decision turned into leg-before against Shanto, who was dismissed after facing 57 deliveries. He hit six fours.

Mominul Haque was unbeaten on 40 and Mushfiqur Rahim on 6 in an unbroken stand of 27 off 37 balls at stumps.

India opted to field under overcast conditions, the first time in a home test since 2015.

Pace bowler Akash Deep (2-14) struck twice in the first session after play was delayed by an hour because of a wet outfield.

Bangladesh started slow as Jasprit Bumrah held a tight line in his opening spell.

Opener Zakir Hassan scratched around for 23 deliveries in search of his first run. He caught at gully off Deep for a 24-ball duck in the ninth over. Yashasvi Jaiswal plucked a low one-handed catch.

Deep then got Shadman Islam lbw for 24.

India leads the two-match series after winning the first test in Chennai by 280 runs.
