India are gearing up for the forthcoming Women's T20 World Cup, which will kick off on Oct 3 in the UAE. Initially, the mega event was to be held in Bangladesh but shifted to UAE due to political unrest in Dhaka.
Bangladesh, however, continue to hold the hosting rights of the tournament. Harmanpreet Kaur-led India will start their campaign on Oct 4, versus New Zealand in Dubai, with the country's hopes on the women's team to replicate Rohit Sharma-led India's 2024 T20 WC triumph. India are one of the contenders in the T20 WC along with defending champions Australia, England, and South Africa. Given that the conditions will suit the Asian teams, the Women in Blue are in with a chance to go all the distance in the ICC event. India are placed in Group A along with New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia and Sri Lanka whereas Group B comprises Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies and Scotland. The marquee clash versus the Women in Green will commence at 3:30 PM (IST). India have been one of the most consistent sides in ICC events in recent times. In the last three T20 WCs, the women's team have made it to the semifinals, including reaching the finale in the 2020 edition in Australia. However, they will be desperate to return with the elusive trophy this time around.
