Rishabh Pant makes a strong comeback in ICC Test rankings, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma slip down

After his impressive return to Test cricket, India’s wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant re-entered the ICC Test Rankings for batters and is in the 6th spot. The southpaw hit a brilliant hundred in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. However, Virat Kohli dropped out of the top 10 while captain Rohit Sharma also suffered a setback.

Shubman Gill, and Ravichandran Ashwin, the other two performers in the opening game against the visiting side, have also made significant gains in the rankings. Gill amassed a ton while Ashwin struck a century and also took 6 wickets.

Pant is the sixth best batter following his scores of 39 and 109. Gill is in 14th position after his unbeaten 119 in the second innings. Meanwhile, Ashwin’s 113 in the first innings took his ranking to 72nd.

Both Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja shared a 199-run partnership in first innings as India won the game by 280 runs. The two all-rounders saw improvement in their rankings. Jadeja’s knock of 86 took him to the 37th spot in the batting rankings. Ashwin gained one rating point after his six-wicket haul and continues to lead the bowlers rankings in the longest format while Jadeja is the sixth best bowler after taking five wickets in the match.

In the all-rounder rankings, Jadeja is leading the tally with 475 points, while Ashwin is in second place. He has amassed 370 points.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma slip down

Kohli and Rohit were among the below-par performers in Chennai. Rohit scored 6 and 5 while Kohli posted 6 and 17 across both innings. Rohit has now slipped down to 10th place. On the other hand, Kohli is in the 12th spot in the latest rankings. Joe Root is the No.1 batter in the Test cricket.
