The IPL mega auction is to be held by the end of this year. Before that, there has been a lot of discussion among the franchise owners about some rules of the league. The rules of retention and right to match were much discussed during this time. Both these rules are very important, because due to this the franchise will retain its important players. The mega auction and the league will also be planned on this basis. After intense discussion, the curtain can now be lifted on the retention policy. According to media reports, 5 players will be allowed to be retained in the next season. Although its official announcement has not been made yet, but BCCI can reveal it to everyone by Thursday 26 September.

The rules will be disclosed in the Apex Council meeting

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is now going to unveil the IPL rules. The BCCI and the IPL franchise owners had a meeting on July 31 to change the rules. According to the report, the rules have now been finalised and the board will not wait for the annual meeting on September 29, but can release it in the Apex Council meeting before that.

What major changes will happen?

The retention policy was the biggest issue that emerged in the meeting of the board and franchise owners regarding IPL 2025. Now news is coming out that the retention policy will change in the next season. Franchisees will be able to retain 5 players, which will include 3 Indian and 2 foreign players. Earlier, 2 Indian and 2 foreign players were allowed to be retained. Apart from this, changes can also be seen regarding uncapped players and right to match rules.

Under the rule of uncapped players, there is talk of retaining Mahendra Singh Dhoni again in Chennai Super Kings. This rule was abolished in 2021. Now there is a demand to bring it back. At the same time, under the Right to Match rule, the franchise gets a chance to buy its previous season's player again during the mega auction. But for that, the price of the highest bid has to be paid. Under this also, there is talk of allowing retention of 1 or 2 players.
