Basit Ali has said that Pakistan will sack white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the country. He said that it would be a big thing for the Men in Green if they made it to the semi-final of the tournament.

Kirsten was appointed as the head coach earlier this year. However, Pakistan had a disastrous ICC T20 World Cup 2024 despite his presence. The sub-continent team was defeated by the United States of America and India in the group stage, and they were eliminated.

“Gary Kirsten will be the head of the coaching staff in shorter formats till the Champions Trophy. He will sacked after the tournament. It will be a big achievement for Pakistan if they qualify for the semi-final of the tournament. Gary has also stepped into the politics of PCB. He won’t be successful,” Basit Ali said.

Kirsten is currently in Pakistan for the ongoing Champions One-Day Cup. He mentioned that Pakistan have enough talent to achieve success across formats.

“We want the team to perform well and win matches across formats. The players are talented, but a proper process is needed. We are focusing on this aspect of the game. We want to create a system where there is competition for places, and the team is unified in its approach to competing against the rivals in the world.”
