Shaheen Afridi is the captain of the Lions team in the Champions One-Day Cup 2024 in Pakistan. However, Basit Ali has termed the tournament as a joke cup.

Basit said that Shaheen is likely to be dropped from the upcoming three-test series against England due to workload issues.

Ali said that Shaheen’s comments were not taken seriously by the PCB in the recently organized connection camp on Monday.

“Whatever Shaheen Afridi said was not taken seriously. He is likely to be dropped for the Test series against England. They will say that it was due to his workload issues, but he is playing in the Joke Cup, and there is still one game left,” Basit Ali said.

Shaheen’s has been below-par across formats in international cricket. He hasn’t taken wickets against big teams, resulting in Men in Green’s failures. Afridi was dropped from the team for the second Test against Bangladesh.

There were reports that he was not in talking terms with Babar Azam after his sacking from the post captain in T20Is. He was given just one series against New Zealand to prove his captaincy and after Pakistan lost 1-4, the speedster was removed with Babar starting his second stint as skipper in shorter formats.

Shaheen was not impactful in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States of America and the West Indies. Pakistan were eliminated from the group stage after losing to the USA and India.
