Indian women's team captain Harmanpreet Kaur is confident her squad can go all the way to win the T20 World Cup which is set to start in the UAE from October 3. Indian women's team skipper Harmanpreet has praised her side, claiming that this is the best team she has got compared to all previous editions.
India will have a unique opportunity to be the world champions in the T20 format for both men and women if Harmanpreet and her army go on to repeat the heroics of Rohit Sharma and Co. who lifted the title in the West Indies in June. Harmanpreet is confident of India's success "If I talk about this team, we have a few players who have been playing for a long time and they know their roles really well," Harmanpreet said at the pre-departure press conference in Mumbai. "I can say that this is the best team we are going for a T20 World Cup with." "Pooja [Vastrakar] is doing well and Renuka [Singh] is supporting her really well. She [Renuka] is someone who is always giving us breakthroughs. Arundhati [Reddy] is someone who can always come and bowl a few overs for the team and bat in the deep," Harmanpreet added.   India have been so near yet so far in the competition having missed out on the World Cup title in 2020. They lost in the final before the COVID-19 outbreak while they lost in the semis in the 2018 and 2023 editions. Interestingly, India came close to winning the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games before they were undone by Australia in 2022. India have also previously lost an ODI World Cup final to England, giving a close account of how good the team has been. However, according to the experienced skipper, India have the best squad and should go all the way to winning the title. The Women in Blue will start their campaign against New Zealand on October 4 before squaring off against arch-rivals Pakistan on consequent Sunday (Oct 6). India will also take on Sri Lanka (Oct 9) and former champions Australia (Oct 13) in the group stage before the knockout stage begins.
