A black soil pitch is reportedly set to be used for the second Test between India and Bangladesh, starting on Friday (September 27) at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
According to a report from ESPNCricinfo, the wicket on offer for the India's meeting against Bangladesh will be a red soil pitch with fleeting bounce and carry. But is not expected to be a rank turner and will be a flatter wicket compared to the one used at Chepauk last week. India registered a massive 280-run win in the series opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where a black soil wicket was used, offering some good bounce for both the spinners and the pacers. The Chennai pitch offered good bounce and carry due to the wicket being prepared using the red soil that was imported from Mumbai two years ago. That pitch made India go with three pacers and two spinners Now, with black soil wicket set to return for the first Test in Kanpur since 2021, the Indian think-tank may be tempted to opt for an extra spinner like they did in their last red ball outing at the venue. In 2021 Test, India played Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as their spinners. In the last outing at the venue in Tests, the spinners accounted for 20 of the 36 wickets with the Indian tweakers claiming 17 scalps across both innings. Axar, who claimed a fifer in the first innings, finished with 6 wickets in the Test, while R Ashwin and Jadeja claimed 6 and 5 wickets in the match respectively. So, there is a very good chance India pick either Axar or Kuldeep Yadav for the Kanpur Test. If India does opt for an extra spinner, it is likely that Akash Deep misses out as seniors Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj could be the immediate picks as pacers.
