FIH Hockey Stars Awards 2024 News In Hindi: Paris Olympics bronze medal-winning Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh has been nominated for the FIH Player of the Year award on Saturday. 28-year-old drag flicker Harmanpreet scored 10 goals in 8 matches at the Paris Olympics. He has won this award twice in a row in 2020 and 2022.

“It is an honour to once again be in the running for the FIH Player of the Year award,” he said in a press release issued by Hockey India.

“I am happy to be named among the best players in the world. But this would not have been possible without the support of my team. I was able to score so many goals in the FIH Pro League and the Paris Olympics because the team created scoring opportunities,” he said.

Apart from Harmanpreet, Thierry Brinkman and Joep de Mol of the Netherlands, Hannes Muller of Germany and Jack Wallace of England are also in the race. Therefore, all the matches played in 2024 including Test matches, FIH Hockey Pro League, FIH Hockey Nations Cup, Olympic qualifiers and Olympics will be counted.

Harmanpreet said, “The Paris Olympics is the biggest achievement of my career so far. The team has always supported me, especially in the World Cup last year when I did not score a single goal. But the team did not blame me. Living up to the trust of the team was always on my mind.” The Indian team also recently won the Asian Champions Trophy in China. Harmanpreet won the “Player of the Tournament” title by scoring seven goals. Voting for the award will be held till October 11.
