Basit Ali refused to criticize Virat Kohli for his twin failures against Bangladesh in the first Test of the series. He is backing Virat Kohli to score runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

The right-handed batter amassed 6 and 17 across both innings against Bangladesh in the Chennai Test.

Basit said that prominent cricketers tend to lose concentration when they play against weak teams.

“Virat Kohli will score runs against Australia. He will like the wickets Down Under. Big cricketers lose concentration against weak teams, but they perform well against challenging opponents,” he said.

Despite Kohli’s flop show, India defeated the visitors by 280 runs to go 1-0 up. Ravichandran Ashwin was named the Player of the Match for scoring 113 runs in the first innings and taking 6 wickets in the second. The second and final Test will be played in Kanpur from September 27.

Basit Ali said that India will beat Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. “India don’t only win at home and they have defeated Australia in Australia in the previous two series. India won’t allow Australia to win the upcoming series.”

The series will start on November 22 in Perth.
