Gautam Gambhir started his Test stint as a head coach with a 280-run win over Bangladesh in Chennai. The visitors were bowled out for 234 while chasing 515 on Day 4 of the contest. The visitors were already out of the game and it was a matter of time for the hosts to win another Test at home.

R Ashwin took six wickets while his bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja dismissed three batters in the second innings as India National Cricket Team completed the proceedings in the first session of the day.

For Bangladesh, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was the only performer with the bat in the fourth innings of the match. He accumulated 82 runs, laced with 8 fours and 3 sixes before Jadeja got rid of him.

Gambhir, who replaced Rahul Dravid as India’s coach, was pleased with the performances of the players and was seen applauding for them during the course of the Test.

“A fantastic start! Well done boys,” he wrote on X.

Ashwin was named the Player of the Match for his all-round contribution. Apart from him, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant also hit tons and were instrumental in India’s victory.

Jasprit Bumrah was spot on in the first innings, taking four scalps. However, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma failed to impress in Chennai and their twin failures were lambasted by fans.

The second and final Test between India and Bangladesh will be played in Kanpur from September 27.
