Team India's star batsman Virat Kohli is not in good form at the moment. He failed in both the innings of the Chennai Test match against Bangladesh. In this way, the whole year of 2024 has not proved to be good for him. If we leave aside the last months of 2022 and the whole of 2023, then the last 3-4 years have not been very good for him. However, before 2020, runs were constantly coming out of Kohli's bat and his performance was the best in the whole world. A big reason for this was his decision, which had to be taken 6 years ago due to the pain he suffered in a match, due to which he had to change his years old habit.

I had to give up non-veg food in 2018

Before the bad phase started in 2020, Virat scored a lot of runs in 2019 and 2018. There was a rain of centuries from his bat, which was never seen before. Virat's such performance came due to his hard work and talent in the practice sessions. Apart from this, his amazing fitness contributed a lot to it, due to which he never got such an injury that he had to leave the match. Kohli started working on this fitness after 2013, but even in this, his habit, which was going on since childhood, was intact. This habit was - consumption of non-veg food i.e. non-vegetarian food.

Kohli, who comes from a Punjabi family in Delhi, told in many of his interviews how butter-chicken used to be his favorite food, while after focusing on fitness, he got away from it but was still eating non-veg in the form of grilled fish or other forms, but for the last 6 years he has been a complete vegetarian and the reason for this is the pain that he felt in 2018. In 2020, Kohli revealed in a conversation with Kevin Pietersen on Instagram Live that he was not a vegetarian before 2018 but he stopped eating meat before the England tour that year.

This change started happening in the body

Explaining the reason for this, Kohli had said that before going to England, during a Test match on the tour of South Africa that year, he suddenly started having pain in his spine and his cervical disc had spread, due to which one of his nerves started getting pressed and its direct effect was in the form of severe pain and tingling in the smallest finger of his right hand. Kohli told that during that match he could not even sleep properly due to the pain. In such a situation, Kohli got his medical tests done and a shocking revelation was made here. Kohli came to know that his body was producing a lot of uric acid, due to which there was a lack of calcium in his body and his stomach was pulling calcium from the bones.

Rained runs in England

Kohli's bones were getting weak due to this and he was feeling pain. The former Indian captain told that it was here that he decided to give up non-vegetarian food and just before the England tour, he completely stopped eating meat. Calling it the best decision of his life, Kohli said that it also affected his performance and he was able to recover more quickly between the continuous matches. On that England tour of 2018, Kohli scored the most 692 runs in 10 innings, whereas 4 years before that he could not even touch the ball in England. Since then, Kohli became a complete vegetarian and has been like this till date.
