Rohit Sharma becomes the oldest India captain to reach 1000 runs in a calendar year

India captain Rohit Sharma has become a part of another elite list as he is the oldest India captain to accumulate 1000 runs in a calendar year. The 37-year-old has been in good form since 2023 as he amassed runs in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

In the ongoing year, Rohit has managed 1001 runs from 27 innings at an average of 41.70 with three centuries and six half-centuries. Rohit started the year with 39 and 16* against South Africa as India defeated the hosts in Cape Town Test to draw the two-match series 1-1.

He registered back-to-back ducks against Afghanistan in T20Is but scored 121 runs off 69 balls in the third and final contest as the Men in Blue completed a 3-0 series win.

He scored 257 runs from eight matches at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.70 with three half-centuries in the T20 World Cup in the United States of America and the West Indies.

Rohit posted 157 runs from three ODIs at 52.33 and a strike rate of 141.44 in Sri Lanka. However, India lost 0-2.

In Tests, the right-handed batter has scored 466 runs from 13 innings at an average of 38.83, hitting two hundreds and one half century. However, he registered 6 and 5 in two innings of the first Test against Bangladesh.

Rohit will be eager to bounce back to form in the second game in Kanpur.
