Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is dealing in wickets as the veteran grabbed his second five-wicket haul in the English County Championship.

After taking four wickets in the first innings, Chahal dismissed five batters in the second as Northamptonshire bowled out Leicestershire for 316.

The target of 137 runs was achieved in 30.3 overs with nine wickets in hand.

Scott Currie (120) and Tom Scriven (48) added important runs for the Leicestershire before the centurion was dismissed by Chahal. The Indian spinner was instrumental in taking the wickets of the middle and lower-order batters.

He got rid of  Lewis Hill (14) and Liam Trevaskis (2). Despite being expensive in a 110-run (141 balls) partnership between Currie and Scriven, Chahal went for wickets, and he finally managed to take Currie’s wicket to leave the rivals at 303/9.

Their innings lasted three more overs, with Saif Zaib (2/61) taking Louis Kimber’s scalp. In the previous contest, Chahal registered bowling figures of 5/45 and 4/45 in Northants’ 133-run win over Derbyshire.

He was a part of Team India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 but wasn’t given a game. Chahal was then dropped for the Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka series.
