Ravichandran Ashwin joined MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev in the elite list of the Indian batters with the most centuries while batting at the No.7 slot or lower. Dhoni and Kapil amassed four hundreds at the No.7 or lower in home Tests.

Ashwin hit his fourth ton on home soil while batting at No.7 or lower.

He was dismissed after managing 113 runs off 133 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes. He shared a 199-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who contributed 86 runs to the total of 376.

It was Ashwin’s second consecutive Test hundred at MA Chidambaram stadium.

In the previous Test series against England, he scored 106 runs off 148 balls in the second innings of a five-day game in Chennai.

The veteran notched up 103 against the West Indies in Mumbai in 2011, while his 124 came against the same rival team in Kolkata in 2013.

Overall, he has hit 6 tons in the longest format of the game.
