Rajasthan Royals appointed Vikram Rathour as their batting coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Rathour will reunite with Rahul Dravid after his stint as the batting coach of the senior national men's team came to an end in June.
The decision comes weeks after for the upcoming season. Vikram Rathour worked under Rahul Dravid for the Indian team during their tenure from 2021 to 2024. Rathour played a key role in India's success, including their first International Cricket Council title in 11 years -- the T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year. Dravid decided not to reapply for the position of head coach after the World Cup triumph. Rahul Dravid welcomed the appointment of Rathour, a former India opener, as the batting coach, praising his technical expertise and calm demeanour. "Having worked closely with Vikram for many years, I can confidently say that his technical expertise, calm demeanour, and deep understanding of Indian conditions make him a perfect fit for the Royals," Dravid said in a statement. "Together, we've built a strong rapport, guiding India to key successes, and I'm thrilled to reunite with him. His ability to nurture young talent and elevate players' potential will be invaluable as we aim to further strengthen our squad and continue building a world-class team here at Rajasthan Royals," he added. PRIVELEGE TO BE PART OF ROYALS FAMILY: RATHOUR Dravid and Rathour will work with Kumar Sangakkara, the Director of Cricket of Rajasthan Royals. Notably, Sangakkara doubled up as Rajasthan's coach in IPL 2023. "It is a privilege to be part of the Royals family. The opportunity to work again with Rahul, and now with a talented group of young cricketers, is exciting. I look forward to contributing to the team's vision and working toward our goal of developing top-class players for the Royals and for India which can help in winning championships," Rathour said. Vikram Rathour played six Tests and seven ODIs for India between 1996 and 1997. Having had a successful stint with the Indian team as coach, Rathour will be keen on making a mark with the Royals. Rajasthan Royals, led by Sanju Samson, finished third in IPL 2024, reaching the playoffs for the second time in three years.
