Ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), India batter Suryakumar Yadav posted a promising recovery update on his social media as he rares to make a comeback in the marquee league for Mumbai Indians.
Suryakumar, who underwent a successful sports hernia surgery in January, shared a video on Instagram in which he can be seen doing intense fitness drills at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He captioned the post, "Recovery process on point." Mumbai batter underwent two surgeries in quick succession after an ankle injury ruled him out of the ODI series against South Africa in December last year. Suryakumar twisted his ankle in the third T20I against South Africa at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg which kept him out of cricket action so far. He also missed the home T20Is against Afghanistan which was India's last bilateral shortest format series before the T20 World Cup 2024 in June. It is expected that Suryakumar will make his return in the IPL for Mumbai Indians. In the IPL 2024, Suryakumar has the final chance to seal his spot for India's T20 World Cup squad as Mumbai Indians eye a record-setting sixth title under the new captain Hardik Pandya. The T20I no.1 batter is India's vital member in the shortest format with 2141 runs at an average of 45.55. In 57 innings, he scored four centuries and 17 half-centuries for Men in Blue. With an eye on ending over decade-long ICC title drought under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, the IPL performances of the senior players will be the key in picking the squad for the showpiece event in the West Indies and the USA. India last won the T20 World Cup in 2007 under MS Dhoni's captaincy in the inaugural season, However, the wait for the second trophy is still going on. India made a semi-final exit in the last edition of the tournament after suffering a 10-wicket annihilation against England in Adelaide.
