Former player hailed Team India for their performances in international cricket. He commented after host nation dominated Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai.

Bangladesh were struggling at 91/6 in the second session of the day. Akash Deep (2 wickets), Jasprit Bumrah (2 wickets), Mohammed Siraj (1 wicket) and Ravindra Jadeja (1 wicket) struck crucial blows to leave the visitors trailing by 284 runs.

Manjrekar was pleased with India’s sensational display.

“What a side India has become! The kind I dreamt of as India player in the 90s 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️,” he wrote on X.

Earlier, Bangladesh pace bowler Hasan Mahmud picked up his second five-wicket haul in a row as India was bowled out for 376 runs in its first innings on Day 2 of the first cricket test on Friday.

Mahmud finished with 5-83, becoming the first Bangladesh bowler with a five-wicket haul in India. It was also his second five-wicket performance in as many innings after he took 5-43 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

Taskin Ahmed finished with 3-55 and helped end India’s innings quickly on the second morning.

Ravichandran Ashwin scored 113 runs — his sixth test hundred and a personal best at his home ground — for India.

Starting from overnight at 339-6, India lost Ravindra Jadeja early on. Bangladesh took the new ball immediately and Ahmed got the breakthrough in the third over of the morning.

Jadeja was out caught behind for 86 off 124 balls, ending his 199-run seventh-wicket partnership with Ashwin that had turned things around for India from a precarious 144-6 on the first day.

India also lost Akash Deep in the first hour — again caught off Ahmed at mid-off — out for 17. He added 24 runs with Ashwin for the eighth wicket as India crossed 350 and added only 38 runs in the first hour of play.

Ashwin fell in the 91st over miscuing a pull to mid-off and walked off to a rousing reception from his hometown crowd.

Bangladesh had opted to bowl after winning the toss and made good use of overcast conditions on the first day, with Mahmud picking up four wickets Thursday.

The second of two tests will be played in Kanpur and begins on Sept. 27, with three Twenty20 matches to follow.
