Rishabh Pant has returned to Test cricket after a full 619 days. Team India's star wicketkeeper-batsman, who played his last Test match against Bangladesh in December 2022, also made his comeback against the same team. Pant's comeback has been fine so far. In the first innings of the Chennai Test, he handled the troubled Team India, but on the second day of the match, one of his decisions proved wrong, due to which he had to apologize in the middle of the match. He apologized to his Team India teammate Mohammad Siraj.

This incident happened at the beginning of Bangladesh's innings on the second day of the match on Friday, September 20. Mohammad Siraj was bowling in the fourth over of the innings. On the fifth ball of the Indian pacer, there was a strong appeal for LBW against left-handed batsman Zakir Hasan. Siraj was assuming that the Bangladeshi batsman was out and he was celebrating along with the appeal but it did not happen. The umpire did not give him out, which shocked Siraj as well as the rest of the players of Team India.

Pant refused, the decision was wrong

Now Team India had only one option, to take DRS on the umpire's decision, so that the review could be clear. Siraj was also seen convincing captain Rohit Sharma for this, but Rohit did not listen to him. This happened because wicketkeeper Pant stopped him from doing so. Pant was saying that the ball was going outside the leg stump, so he would not be out and a review would also go waste. Rohit ultimately did not take the review. In a short while, the replay was shown on the big screen in the stadium, in which it was clear that the ball would have hit the leg stump and Zakir would have been out.

Pant also admitted his mistake after seeing this and apologized to Siraj from a distance on the field. Zakir Hasan, however, did not last long and after 4 overs, Akash Deep bowled him out. Before this, Team India was all out for 376 runs. In the first session of the day itself, Team India lost its remaining 4 wickets for just 37 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin was out after scoring 112 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja missed his fifth Test century. He was out after scoring 86 runs. Hasan Mahmud took 5 wickets for Bangladesh.
