R Ashwin hit a magnificent hundred in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. With India in trouble at 144/6, he joined hands with Ravindra Jadeja, adding an unbeaten 195 runs for the seventh wicket. Former India player Ajay Jadeja was mighty pleased with Ashwin’s counter-attacking knock, which put the hosts in the driving seat. India posted 339/6 in 80 overs on day 1 of the contest.
It was Ashwin’s sixth hundred, and Ajay compared him with legendary VVS Laxman, the crisis man of the India National Cricket Team. Laxman was renowned for playing match-winning innings throughout his Test career.
“He played a Laxman-like knock in the first innings. In fact, he reminds me of VVS Laxman, who played numerous match-winning knocks for India. Ashwin is doing the same for the team. Laxman batted lower down the order throughout his time with the national team, and Ashwin has a similar batting position,” Ajay Jadeja said on JioCinema.
The right-handed batter amassed 102 not out, with the help of 10 fours and 2 sixes. On the other hand, his batting partner Ravindra Jadeja was on 86, including 10 fours and 2 sixes.
Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6) couldn’t handle Hasan Mahmud, who took four big wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) made valuable contributions.
