Yash Dayal recalled feeling bad for dismissing MS Dhoni during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK) virtual knockout match, held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 18. Chasing 219, CSK needed to at least make 201 to qualify.
Thus, Dayal was given the responsibility to stop Dhoni from taking CSK to the playoffs when he came to bowl the final over. The pacer dismissed Dhoni, in what could be his last-ever IPL match, as RCB edged past defending champions Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK to enter the playoffs. Recently, Dayal revealed he 'felt bad' dismissing Dhoni as it might have been his last-ever appearance in the IPL. 'Will we ever see him again on the ground?' Speaking to Jatin Sapru on his YouTube channel, Dayal said, "I felt bad after dismissing him. Because I don't know or care what people say but the frustration with which he left the ground, it was like you don't know whether he will return or not. Will we ever see him again on the ground. It was a moment where a lot of things were going through my head. I got a breather, a bit of relief."   After the end of the 19th over, CSK were 184-6 and very unlikely to win the match. However, they were targeting to add another 17 runs to the team total to qualify ahead, on Net Run Rate (NRR) despite a likely loss. Dhoni started the final over with a huge six off Dayal. Dayal, however, was advised by Virat Kohli to not go for a yorker and instead opt for a change of pace to outfox Dhoni. He did the same and dismissed the former CSK captain but the job wasn't fully done with new batter Shardul Thakur and non-striker Ravindra Jadeja capable of taking CSK through. Dayal further added, "With 11 runs needed off 4, I was like why I am even looking at the scoreboard. I shouldn't. I should just focus on my bowling. Shardul bhai was on strike. Virat bhai said, 'Don't give pace, nor bowl right onto his bat'. I told him right now it's like peanut butter falling from the top. Anywhere I want to bowl, I will I have so much confidence." Courtesy of Kohli's quickfire 47 and skipper Faf du Plessis' 52, RCB posted 218-5 and restricted the Yellow Army to 191 for 7 to win and qualify for the playoffs. They eventually lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator. Speaking about Dhoni, no one knows his future in the IPL. While it was regarded that IPL 2024 would be his last-ever, he has not announced his retirement so far. A final decision is expected before the IPL mega auction, later this year.
